Hi Guys,
So I'm digging thru the ORD and I'm looking at the rear seat cushions construction. I went out and felt my cushions without taking the covers off and I don't feel any springs. Feels like just a thick piece of foam for the bottom and back cushion. So I look in the ORD and it only lists one rear cushion and doesn't say if it's for the back or bottom. But looking at Fig 18-9 shows the listed cushion is for the rear back. It doesn't have a breakdown of what it's constructed of like the bottom cushion does. But there are 2 springs listed and they're labeled rear seat back and rear seat bottom. So I'm not seeing what the rear seat back should have in it other than a spring.....is there no foam at all?
I did some web crawling to look at peoples seat pics and it seem some do just use a single piece of foam and no springs. Is that just a 'bubba' mod or did the Army ditch the springs at some point and just use foam.cushion?
thanks,
bob |

the after market canvas people sold the foam as a replacement for the horse hair and springs. originals can still be found.
nice to see someone reading the ord9 _________________ '51 M38 #22936,

Hi Brian,
Yup........when I saw that listing the other day it made me go out and squeeze my cushions. Hence my question. There's another guy with a set of cushions but he didn't take the covers off........so I just emailed him to ask if they have springs or are just pads. I'm probably going to go home and rip my rear seat cushions apart now......just so I know what I got. Although........with everything I've found wrong on my jeep so far......I'm pretty sure what I'm going to find.
thanks,
