I have an older but unused reproduction M38 gas tank. Looking at the diagram in the Ord 9 it shows a filler tube that slides down into the tank's filler neck. I know the filter screen attached to this. These tubes seem hard to come by and I'm not sure if they would fit this tank. So my question is, is this part necessary for the jeep to be functional? Thanks, Marty |

It is not necessary. It acts as a funel and filter. Some of the repro's don't have it. |

It comes in handy if you are filling from a jug that has no funnel tube like a Jerry can. But if you have a modern can with a tube or fill only from gas stations then you don't really need it. |
