Hello All,

Latest photographic offering from my M38 'box of bits':

When I purchased the M38, I was informed that these were ski racks that came with the jeep. I'm guessing that they attach to the top bows (the brackets at the bottom with the bolt holes through are the right diameter), but they are too narrow to run the width of the jeep. Do you think they'd go lengthways on the jeep top bows??

I have two of them (left & right side). I think the leather straps on the right side of the picture are replacements, and they should be standard military straps (as the left side ones).

What do you think? Are they ski racks, and does anyone have any photos of them fitted to a jeep?

Thanks in advance,
Owen.

I don't know what the rack is for, perhaps a litter rack. But I noticed that your jeep has rear toolboxes like a MB/GPW and no tailgate as a M38 should have. Are you sure the jeep is a M38? Perhaps a M38A1? Have pics of the whole vehicle?

That's my father's GPW bodytub in the previous photo. Mine is an M38:

Still tons of work to do (needs a new back floor, wheelhouses and side panels), but the frame is now almost complete......

They look like some home spun ski brackets and the mounts look like they are for a thicker roll bar mounting. Could have come from anything including a lot of civilian vehicles as well.

Thanks for that, Wes. The mounting brackets would suit approximately a 1" diameter tube, if that helps any.

They could conceivably be for anything. Might be handy if I needed to pick up six long lengths of 5"x1" timber. Very Happy

As a last resort, I just did a google image search for "Willys Jeep ski rack". Check this weblink to the G503 site:

The construction looks the same, so any snow-bound MB/GPW owners want some ski racks?? Laughing

One more:

I'd guess the ski rack is 'Made in Norway'. Where did you get yours from, was it in service in Norway or Sweden?
