I like to find out the proper rod size that passes through the steering column then through to the horn switch at the bottom of the steering box. The rod is missing from my 1953 m38a1, I could maybe find something at the local hardwhare store that would work if I knew the right length and diameter of the rod. thanks, Lake

Thanks ,I picked up my horn kit at Midwest, but it is a aftermarket kit and I would sooner stay original if possible.I checked the lower nut assembly with the douglas connectors and it works fine . Just need the rod lenght and diameter and I,am back in business and all back original. Thanks,Lake

According to ORD 7 SNL G-758, page 35, the horn switch push rod is 1/8 in X 42 11/16.

Kendall,

What is the issue date on your ORD 7? Mine is 1952 and it doesn't offer the rod info.

I also noticed the M38A1 ORD 9 shows a centering disc (washer) and a retaining washer for the horn switch rod.

My ORD 7 is dated April 1956. Also my M38A1 is threaded at the steering wheel end for the horn disc.

I ordered the horn rod from Midwest Military also for my M38. It's too long so I will have to shorten it.

A 3/16" break line tube can be used untill the correct rod can be obtained. On the steering wheel end screw a small machine screw into the tube to make the adjustment.

Good information! Now can anyone recommend a good substitute for the disk that goes on the end of the rod? Also a source for the 'rubber' horn button?

Hello folks, still about the same issue - M38A1 horn disk - can anyone furnish me a large size photo of this disk, even better with dimensions?
I`m also considering that horn rod length for the M170 is the same as the M38A1, no?
Thanks,
Claudio Wink

BTW: the disk I am meaning is the one on the center of the steering wheel, i.e., that is threaded to the rod end.
