Hi Guys,

Have any of you A1 owners found your engine SN stamping to use 2 different fonts? Reason I ask is I just went out to get my engine SN and after some wire brushing thru a few layers of paint I found them. They're MD_88423. The underscore just means there's a space. All the numbers use a nice big plump round font..........except the second "8" which is very narrow compared to the other numbers. Most noticeable because there's another "8" right next to it. I'm sure it's not a zero or three or six...........it's an "8". I'll try to post a pic later. Anybody ever see anything like what I'm describing?

thanks,
bob

Have you looked in my photo albums? Wink

NOS Factory replacement engine.

These 8's are narrower than the rest as well.

More

It only seems to be the 8's.

Here we have a skinny 8 & a fat 8!

Seems WWII blocks are more uniform with their stamp sets.

Also the 8 in the center of the last PIC! That's what I have that album loaded for.

Hi Wes,

Here's another pic for your album....showing the two different "8" fonts right next to each other.

thanks again,
bob

They are very evenly placed on the MDs, they were using a strikebox maybe so had all the numbers in at the same time thus grabbing from multiple sets. Only reason I can think of for the 8s being different side by side like that.

Hi Xamon,

Yeah, I see what you're saying. So far from Wes' pics we don't see any SN with two "8"s that use the same font. That would lead me to believe they only had 2 sets of stamps and maybe one of the "8" stamps either broke or wore out and was replaced by the skinny 8 stamp they got as a replacement. Which is what you're saying as well......I just like to type.

Very Happy

regards,
bob
