Would like to ID the carb on the F134 engine in my M38-A1 / SN 32727 so I can get the proper kit.
The carb is a "YF" without any Identifying Model Number.
The Cast Iron Carb Base has 1-630 / The middle section of the carb with float bowl has 0-756 / The top part of the carb has 6-715
I did rebuild it but the kit did not have the correct needle float valve. Was able to use the accelerator stem with diaphragm and some of the gaskets but still have difficulty with idle.
Also, I would also like to find out if the engine is original to the vehicle. Stamped in block by valve cover 807005 / Cast in block by carburetor CR 64 30 / Cast in block just above the oil pan on the LH side as you face the front of the jeep 646228-W-12-D-AR / Cast in the block on the RH Side just above the oil pan is 3 630. Any assistance with this is much appreciated. Thanks
Without the triangular plate off the the top of the carb it will be tough to ID which YF series carb you have.
The block casting #646228 is the early F134 that came out around 1950 for the Willys truck. Early A1' used that casting. However the only way to positively determine which chassis the block was originally installed in at Willys is to have the serial number of the block. It is on the small flat above the water pump. They are lightly stamped and you should use a paint remover or DOT 3 brake fluid to remove any paint so you can read it. The letter prefixes to the serial tells us what chassis they came in. The M38A1 block serials will start with MDXXXXX or RMDXXXXX.

Wesk, thanks for the info. I did find the Number by the Water Pump. MD16221 with WO number behind the pass seat MD32728... Do you think this might be the original engine? Do you think it is a 1952 based on the SN?
As to the Carb, it is definitely the older type YF. Do you think the carb is correct for the engine? I took a bunch of pics of each phase of disassembly. I can try to load pics if that would help or could send them to a email address. Thanks again for your help with this.
F134 engine sn MD16221 would be a very early M38A1 engine.
The serial numbers on the dash tag and wheel house tag must match. If not they have been mix and matched since they left Willys. MD32727 or 728 would be a Nov/Dec 1952 M38A1.
All M38A1's left Willys with the YS950S carb. Others will fit and work but the YS950S is the correct one.
It will be easier for you if we open a member's photo album here on our web site.
