I see there are 2 different types of main shaft gears for the D18, both are the same gear count and practically identical but one style has a square shoulder on the backside the other a 45 degree chamfer. (Wish I could post pictures) My old gear that came out is the 45 degree style. I ordered a NOS gear that was the same as mine and made sure I was ordering that style but when it came in the mail the guy gave me the one with the machined shoulder on the back which is not what I wanted. Can these be interchanged or is there a reason they are different I hate to go through the hassle of returning it. Thanks Jason

Hello Jason,

Since technically there are no main shafts or main shaft gears listed in the Parts Manual we should start by properly ID'ng the correct gear. The best way to do that is with the page from the IPL (Parts Manual).

Not sure why you cannot post photos but I'l at least get you started with one of our albums here on this web site:

Sorry Wes I should have gone by the parts book. It would actually be part "Z" in your photo, Spur, Gear WO-A10469. It appears there are 2 different styles only thing different is the backside. I just went by what the distributors are calling it. Thanks for the album I will try and figure out how to post pictures next time I get on my computer as I do most of my stuff through my phone and cant upload them.

How does the gear you have measure up to these listed dimensions? Try to get photos up showing the physical difference between your old and new gears. It will make this a lot easier.

The link you posted is for the entire page that shows the 1st example.

You must right click on the photo itself and copy and paste the photo's link inside the the brackets.[img][/img]

This is the link that belongs in between the two img's above.

OK thank you Wes for correcting the photo link I was having a hard time with that and I couldn't figure out how to make sure the photo wasn't over 250k.

So can either one of these 2 styles be used in the D18 or is there a reason that one is machined differently on the backside than the other is it for clearance? One is specified for CJ5s and the other is M38A1 models but they are identical as far as gear count and size.

I would be willing to bet one was cheaper to manufacture than the other.

What are the part numbers and to which does each part number apply?
