TM 9-1804A says torque spec for subject is 50-55 lb-ft. I've seen another posting on this forum which is a collection of various specs that says 35-40 lb-ft for 3/8 in bolt. Hope the TM is the correct one. That's what I've used. Advise please. Thanks
The Civilian Willys manuals for the L134 and the F134 use the lower torque. If it's any consolation TM 9-1803A for the MB calls out 50-55.
If you research Bolt part numbers you will find that MB's and Early CJ2A's used 7/16x20 rod bolts and the M38, late CJ2A and CJ3A as well as the F134's used the 3/8x24 bolt.
Therefore I would use the lower torque figure on the 3/8x24 bolts. _________________ Wes K

There is always that risk. The only safe course of action would be new bolts and recheck clearance on bearings with plasti-gage after retorq. If bearing clearance is out of limits then new bearings.
Or say a special prayer, cross your fingers and see how it goes! _________________ Wes K
