Connecting hardware consists of bolt, plain washer, lock washer and nut. What is the order and direction for assembly? Picture would be nice if available. Yeah, I know, I'm picking fly poop out of the pepper shaker but since I'm doing it, thought I'd try to be correct. Thanks in advance.

Brumbach,I just sounds like you're trying to learn and do it the correct way. There are several here who can help you. Oh and my the way, The worst job I ever had was picking fly specs outta black pepper.

Brumbach,

Let's start with you telling us:

1 - Model/year/serial of jeep in question.

This will help narrow our choices down on the several bells, plates & bolt counts.

This can be avoided by always showing your jeep's Make/Model/Year in your post signature element. Or always opening your post with the ID of exactly what you are working on.

Keep in mind that both plates and both bells can be adapted to use on ALL 4 VERSIONS OF THE L134.

So on yours series 2 L134:

Are you using the early bell housing & plate (Correct for series 2 L134) or the late bell housing & plate (which can be fitted to the series 2 L134?

OK, I thought on this for a moment and asked myself what would I do if I were looking for this info? I would use the factory or Army manual illustrations first to verify the data. I quickly found that TM 9-8012 Dtd Jan 56 had no illustrations of the early bell installation.

However the early user's manual TM 9-804 Dtd SEP 50 had many and quite clear.

Fig 14 & 15 on Pg 90
Fig 23 on Pg 100
Fig 35 on Pg 123
Fig 38 on Pg 127

Go to my photo album to view the large file sizes.

You can download the above TM 9-804 pages from my album: http://www.willysmjeeps.com/v2/modules.php?set_albumName=album587&op=modload&name=gallery&file=index&include=view_album.php

Taking this a few more steps I reviewed the TM 9-1804A Dtd JUN 1951

Fig 1 on Pg 4
Fig 3 on Pg 6
Fig 20 on Pg 26
Fig 21 on Pg 27
Fig 26 on Pg32
Fig 28 on Pg 34
Fig 29 on Pg 36
Fig 33 on Pg 42 (Carefull this one shows bolts backwards to hold plate on without bell.

All these were the early bell & engine.

TM 9-1804B Dtd JUL 1952 yielded:

Fig 3 on Pg 8
Fig 4 on Pg 9

Again both of the early bell & engine.

I would advise all early M38 (Thru DEC 52) secure a copy of TM 9-804.

This illustration I made years ago and has been in my M38 photo album for some time:
