In a previous post I said that I had a oil leak at the front of my transmission at the counter shaft. I ended up purchasing a new transmission case and almost every thing else except the main shaft, cluster gear, reverse idler from Mullins. The old case was so bad that the new cluster shaft rattled around in the front hole in the case.

I think, like a lot of us I don't have much muscular help in working on these things, my wife is great and helps but only so much. In any case upon thinking about mating the transmission and transfer case I was looking for an easy way to do it. I imagine some of you folks have already figured out good ways but here is what I did.
I took some 3/8 x 2 inch bolts and cut the hex head off, ground it smooth and then flattened opposite sides on the non-thread end of the bolt shaft.
I stood the bell housing on it's open end on my bench and used 2x4's up against the bell housing mounting flanges, screwed down to the bench. I did this to improve stability. I mounted the bell housing to the transmission.
I put my altered bolts in two of the bolt holes for the transfer case bolts and put on my gasket. I was then able to easily lift the transfer case up, slide it on my guide bolts and bolt it up. It took a few minutes to prepare the bolts etc but it sure made it easy to mount the transfer case.

I was so pleased with my self I forgot to take a picture with the transfer case mounted.
Hope this is helpful to someone.

Man you work fast!

Aren’t you retired? Where do you find the time?

Grins,
Brian

When you are retired there are no days off, no weekends and no paid holidays,
Everyday is a work day.

That’s my point. Since I retired I don’t get ANYTHING done!

Thought about going back to work so I’d have more spare time!
