I pulled one of my rear wheels today and discovered the brake backing plate has a good sized split in the bottom plus it is twisted. Read up on it and it does not appear too difficult to disassemble just need a puller to pull the hub and drum from the shaft. Anything else to be aware of? Thanks all.

I moved your post from "Photo Albums requests and Album Issues" to this "Technical Knowledge Base Board".

You may get lucky if the last guy that put the rear hub/drum on used some Anti-Seize. So loosen the nut and smack the drum with a large ballpean hammer and if it pops loose just press on and follow the steps in the manual.

If it doesn't pop loose then you will need to find a proper puller:

The preferred puller:

Is that puller jeep specific? Where would I find one if I end up needing it?

Just google striker type hub puller. It's a common industry puller. They are not cheap. Might want to hit your local tool renting shop first. Or even Ebay. I often see gove surplus ones on there reasonable.

O'Reilly carry's them for $159.

As Wes says, keep an eye on e-bay, I bought mine for $30 w/shipping! Nobody else bid on it! It's an older one, OTC I think, not the cheap overseas copies.

a few 'new' ones out on ebay for 46$ - read the reviews, lasted for two drum removals before threads stripped....we need a tariff on junk steel in the form of tools/parts coming from China....

Did you get a USA made puller Lee and if so what brand is it? I was just wondering because if I do end up needing one I want to make sure I get a quality one.

Mine is a used Ken-Tool T500 which I don't think they make anymore. Look for them on ebay and craigslist and don't buy the cheap new ones unless like Wes said, they are 150$.

there is one on ebay right now with three bids and about 26$
