Here are some pics of the M38 when I trailered it home in pieces in January.
The frame/drivetrain and body/parts were stored in two locations. Lots to do!

About my hood numbers!

I know this is a topic of significance for sure and much contested. These are the very faint hood numbers that I have found under the paint. Also there is a number scrawled with grease pen or paint pen under the hood. I think it may have been done by motorpool to read when the hood is up but the numbers do not quite make sense. I also found the MC engine number (matching) written just in front of the radiator when I was sanding. It seems to end in 655 or 855.

With flash.

No flash.

I wet a few areas to better show the writing.

I just finished up my M715 project and found this that a friend has had sitting for the better part of 10 years. Some work had been done but lots left to do. The engine, tranny, and transfer case was rebuilt professionally.

The tub was separate from the rolling chassis and parts were stored in his garage with his many other MV projects. If fact, I am still picking up parts from him. I really hope he comes across the data plate soon. The title indicates a low 38,0xx number.

The history I have been told is when the military surplused it, a school district picked it up. Eventually it was sold to a gentleman who basically used it for a hunting rig. The electrical has been converted to 12 volt but I plan on going back to 24 volt in the restoration. The PO I purchased it from has had it for 10 years and was slowly restoring it. He purchased it from the widow of the hunter (she approached him) who knew he restored old MVs so some punk kids didn't get it! I purchased it January 2018.

I will post pics ASAP.
