Is this the correct steering column bracket for an M38? I've noticed a two-piece bracket on the CJ2A and MB. This is a picture of my Jeep before I started working on it. Is is correct to have some sort of padding wrapped around the column between the bracket and dash?
Standard webbing is used around the mast jacket. I think it is 1 1/4" wide. You can look it up in the parts manual. Same goes for the 2 brackets. _________________ '52 Dodge M37, '42 GPW, '48 FrankenJeep CJ2A/M38, '50 CJV-35(U), '51 M38, '42 WC-57 Command Car, '44 WC-51 Weapons , (2) M1941 Sperry 60" Anti-Aircraft Searchlights, John Deere M-gator, '44 White M3A1 Scout Car

Hi Dave,
Your clamp looks the same as my M38, which I believe is correct. Pretty sure the 2-piece clamp is CJ as you said. Here’s a thread about the topic that talks about the column clamp and webbing, but also mentions shims and other steering column mounting issues you might be interested in:
Most any military cotton canvas web belt is the same thing as the column welting (1-1/4 inch wide). You could buy one of these, trim a few inches off to fit your waist, use it under your column clamp, and still have a belt to hold up your trousers! If you want something that won't hold water I think they make them in nylon O.D. as well.
