Hello. I have an 1951 Willy's M38. It still has the ID tag on the fender but the title is lost. The previous owner died. I'm filing for a lost title and one of the requirements is to show the NADA value. When you go to the NADA site they list Jeeps but the Military M38 isn't listed. They have the CJ3a but not the military versions.

Where can I get a document where I can show the value or better yet show me the path to find the military stuff in NADA.

Thanks

Frankly the NADA site is useless and did not offer me any pricing even when I selected 51 CJ3A. Same dead end on Kelly's Blue Book and no price available in Hemmings used car value guide.

If your DMV said you needed to get a price from NADA then ask them to offer you a price checking agency that actually covers your 70 year old jeep.

I took the liberty to move your post here on our Technical Questions Page. The Web Site Questions page is to discus problems /issues with our web site.

Hi Captain,
If your experience is anything like mine, your DMV wants a value for tax purposes. Think about it.

Value is highly dependent on condition --- is it original or modified? Did Bubba and Rust have their way with it over the years? Can it be driven safely?

What it's actually worth and what it could be sold for can be very different numbers.

They might accept insured value, or want an appraisal.

Good luck!

There are two values:
- What the DMV wants and will tax you on....... Sad
- What you could potentially sell you jeep for to someone else.... Smile

I'd show the DMV your Bill of Sale and if that's not good enough, ask to speak to a supervisor...the normal clerk working the counter has more than likely never had a M38 to deal with. My State has a minimum value for tax purposes and if my Bill of Sale is for a value less than that they round it up and send you on your way.

Good luck!
