Rebuilt my M38 steering box, centered the steering. Should the ball of the pittman arm be DIRECTLY under the sector shaft. I have NOS sector and a NOS pittman but the alignment marks leave the ball maybe an inch to 1.5 inches to the left of the sector shaft when looking up from underneath the Jeep.

I found info that when using mismatched parts makes sure the ball is situated directly under the sector shaft. I have the "manual" but I just wanted an opinion from someone that knows.

Your help is appreciated. John

I just did this last week...

The Pitman to Sector connection was the last thing I put together on the steering system. The way I did mine was to center the steering wheel, made sure the front tires are straight ahead, install the drag link to the bell crank and pitman arm and then slide the pitman arm onto the sector shaft. You may need to gently rock the steering wheel if your not perfectly lined up with the pitman/sector splines.
