Last Sat I helped a friend haul a nice original early M38 home.

The owner when starting the M38 said the starter always makes that spinning sound for a while before starting. He just didn't try to fix it.

After working with the linkage and reading about that starter the early AutoLite MBP4301UT. I think it's the overrunning clutch failing or needing adjustment.

I can't seem to find an online version of the manual - TM 9-1825B dated 1952.

Anyone have a link or a copy they can share?

It may be a bit hidden but it's there: M series general manuals in our downloads section: http://www.willysmjeeps.com/v2/modules.php?name=Downloads&d_op=getit&lid=201

Hi Alan,
When you first log in, go straight to the "Downloads" page, then to "Manuals", then to "M-Series General Manuals" and you'll see it.

For some reason, going to a post first and clicking on a link in a post, even when already logged in, doesn't work and you get the "access denied" message.

I'm not computer savvy enough to know why or I might fix it.
Guessing --- maybe because I've got Windows set to "open a new window" when I click a link, and the new window for the site doesn't recognize me as still being logged in so it won't take me there.

Good luck!
