I'm curious as to what fit in front of the right-side
passenger seat on the floor over the
tool box . It looks like a base for something
or other. Was it a fire extinguisher or ??

The decontamination unit mounted in front of the passenger seat on the three little blocks there... There was a thread a while back either here or on the "G" about fire extingushers... The Canadians mounted theirs on the drivers side fender on the slant portion, it was said that the US mounted theirs possibly on the inside of the tub under the dash... Not sure on this.

I have updated my fire extingusher and have mounted it beside the passenger seat on the tool box. This is between the seats. I did this due toi the fact I drive my M-38 CDN regularly and you never know when it might be needed... Especially here in Oklahoma in the summer and dry grass season...

Hope this helps...

From the factory, there was no fire extinguisher supplied; however local units would have issued them and therefore the mounting location would be up to the individual units... For the 20yrs I was in the USAF every vehicle I drove had a fire extinguisher in it... from sedans to M-35 and M-900 series... even the forklifts...

So mounting a fire extinguisher is up to the user to determine where it goes... That is the US side of the story...

Tha Canadians mounted their fire extingushers upon reciept from the factory on the Driver's side front fender on the slant...

CDN-OM9-804 June 1952 states: "The fire extinguisher is locvated on the left side cowl"

Hope this helps...
