Was ther different instrument panels on the M38? My panel is different than the pics i have seen. My Speedo is center and bottom. It also has a cromed light cover that sticks out, top and center.

The M38 used two panels during production. The difference being 4 screw holes on the early panel are not on the later panel and two decals vary with introduction dates. Instrument holes and locations as well as Hi beam lamp and two instrument lamps remains the same thruought production.

The M38A1 used the second M38 panel thru the bulk of it's production which occurred between 52 and 55. There were small production runs in the later 50's and early 60's. The mid 60's run made the switch to the M151 style instrument cluster and hi-bean lamp assemblies.

Nope mine is different. I would post a picture but i dont have a camera.

Mine would be upside down from the one in the pic. The speed-o is on the bottom. There are no holes for the 2 dome lights.

If you turned it upside down the area for the high beam light there is a crome dome about 4 inches long sticking out over the instruments. Wonder if there was a civilian dash that was removable shaped like the M38.

No civvy removable instrument clusters from Willys / Kaiser.

Could be home made.

A digital pic is the only chance for getting it ID'd.

I just couldnt imagine someone would of went to all the trouble to cut out a different instrument panel from the looks of the other modifications they did. I have not looked on the back side, kinda scared too , affraid i'll see something ugly.

Lots of them custom home made units out there. Many times a M series tub is purchased with an empty hole there and many folks see no reason to pop $20 or $30 bucks for a rectangular piece of steel.
