|
|
Looking at the various manuals for the M38, I haven't found a decent view of the anchor point for the throttle cable, I do know mine is not right as it's going over the top of the carb and is anchored on a makeshift bracket.
Thanks,

your right as I didn't find any clear picture either. However, the throttle cable attaches to the carb at the same clip tht the choke cable does. There should be a bracket attached to the carb with the two clips that hold the outer cable in place. One screw squeezes the clips to hold the cables in place. The lower end of the throttle cable (the inner cable) slips through a hole in the carb throttle bracket and held in place by a metal stop that slides over the cable and held with a set screw. |

I'm thinking Keats explaination sums it up pretty well. I've gathered that from the pictures in the manuals which are all taken from the drivers side of the carb. and don't really show a clear picture of the bracket under the carb neck.
Wes, I'm not sure the A1 is the same as the straight M38.

I took some photos of how I attached the cables and also a photo of how I ran the fuel line to avoid vapor lock.
I'll try to add them to my gallery. Go to page three for these pics. _________________ Tropical Veteran

Thanks Ken.
Your choke cable is above and the throttle is below from the looks of it.
That would mount the choke cable above the choke lever, but apparently not enough to make it not work.
Did you have a vapor lock problem? I just bent a new line a couple of weeks ago and naturally, I bent it like the original! I can always do another.
Wes, Thanks for the new pictures but I can't read the writing on them Can you repost the pictures a little bigger?

The way I have the cables are, choke on top, and throttle on bottom.
I have some minor binding when I pull on the choke though. I think I can make out in Wes's pics that the choke is in the bottom clamp. I may try some more adjustment on mine.
No, I didn't have a vapor lock problem. I just run the line that way to get it away from the manifold so as not to have problems with it in the future. I also wrapped the exhaust down pipe with some insulation wrap I bought from Spruce Aircraft to maybe help keep heat from radiating too much on the fuel pump, and the master cylinder, even though I installed the heat shield on the MC. Maybe overkill, In my opinion I think it will help rather than hurt. _________________ Tropical Veteran

Thanks for the link Wes, that shows it clearly.
I probably won't have a problem with vapor lock in Illinois (though it does get miserable warm in the summer!), I might make another line anyway.
