It is a NOS shovel covered in cosmolene.

Needs to be refinished as it is like 50 years old.

Well I need to quickly duck tail and run!. Since I am blinded by my obsession with my M170 I had thought all used the same shovel. After a quick look at this site:

I see that the M38A1 is a 30° shovel and the M38 is a 45° shovel. I am sorry I posted and wasted your time.

no waste. I am thinking of maybe getting a cheap walmart shovel and modifying it to the 45° I had seen one other person do that.

The guy I know that did it just cut the shovel head bent it and then welded it back up.
