Does anyone of any detailed pictures, measurements of the hanger bearing used with the ramsey 50 pto winch? I need to get something made to use on my jeep, and with pics I might have someone that can make something at least somewhat close to the orginal.

Bottom view of Rod Nowland's

A box of Mdl 50R parts on Ebay. This support may be a civvy one but would work.

does anyone have a spare civvy one? The jeep my winch came off had a straight shaft with no support bearing. I am going to be running a civvy pto until I can find the correct one.

Joe Hall of Vintage Wiring of Maine had this hanger bearing remanufactured. I purchased one from him several years ago for my Ramsey 50 set-up. It was a perfect replica of the original which for all practical purposes is not available anymore. Try giving him a call.

Bill,
Where did you happen to come by your Ramsey 50 winch?

It was on a cj5 that I found on craigslist in Maine. It was run by a civvy pto, and held in my a homemade mount. My m38 currently has a civvy pto in it and I will use it until I can get the correct one. I need new bearings, a new seal for the worm gear, and I am having the shaft the engagement lever goes on re-made because it is pretty well beat.

Last time someone used the winch it ate the bearings, the races are still stuck on the worm gear, hopefully I can get that fixed.

I bought the winch last weekend. I wont tell you what I paid for it, it would make you cry. I have had a terrible time getting the drum off, now I need to straighten it a little, it had lots of water between the drum and shaft, couldn't even turn the thing. Any one make new gaskets for the winch?

I have a feeling the data plate is a re-stamp. The 50 is a 3500 LB unit and the 50R is a 5000 Lb unit. Bill,
You might also send Rod an email to see where he got his nice shiney bearing support.

Is that the source in Maine that says the books are all BS and only personal experience with the product is legitimate evidence? Wink

The Willys specs for the 50 are 3500 and the 50R 5000

I believe you have a re-stamped unit and most likely it was re-stamped when it was depot overhauled to show an upgrade from 3500 to 5000.

Back to your original request I finally fgound the bearing photos I was looking for.

Bill,
Everything I have ever seen indicates that the Ramsey50 was a 3500lb winch and the Ramsey 50R was an updated 5000 lb winch meant to replace the 50. I have what I believe to be an original Ramsey 50 winch with the original data tag and it clearly indicates the model is a 50 and a capacity of 3500 lbs. it is a mystery why your 50 indicates 5000 lbs. For what its worth...I understand your pain...I nearly had to be committed after what I had to pay for my Ramsey 50 winch, however, mine was in good working order and needed no additional work or repairs.

DFoley,

I basically stole the winch. I only paid $250 for it, including the civvy pto. I am fine if the data plate has been restamed, it is still a 50 and worth way more than I paid for it. The data plate is also on the grill side of the winch not on the front like I have seen on the 50R. There are no holes on the front where a plate would have been. I have mailed off the parts that I need remade. Anyone know the part numbers for the bearings and the seal? I could also use gaskets.

And Wes it was not Joel that gave me the infromation. Maybe as they produced the ramsey 50 its capacity was upgraded at ramsey and it is just not documented.

I have the odd ball jeep I might as well have the odd ball winch as well.

Ok I changed the title of this thread because I need help find a few parts for my new winch. I need the bearings which are marked AHLBERG 7304 Made in U.S.A Thrust hear, I only have the outer race, the inner race is still stuck on my worm gear. Anybody know what replacement bearings I need? I also need the seal that seals the worm gear where the pto shaft connects it say Victor US Pat 2240332 and is about 1.5 inches accross.

Thanks for the help
