Any idea what the number 8487 on the title would refer to? Thanks Wes |

Wes, in addition to the information I emailed you, I do have a hinged grill as well, so the bolt holes are in use. Let me know if you need anymore information.

Norseman,
Nekaf does not seem to have built M38A1's in the following series:
166xx/169xx; 172xx; 183xx/190xx; 193xx.
I have already collected data of more than 2100 Nekafs from original government auction-catalogs and have not found any serial numbers that fit in those series.
So I think you are right about your M38A1 being Danish production.
Regards,
Harold |

Dear Norseman,
Dutch M38A1's have a frame number on the left side that starts with MD followed by the serial number (5 digits).
Danish M38A1's have a frame number on the left side that starts with the prefix 57144 followed by the serial number (5 digits). The frame is also marked with JEEP M38A1 directly above the framenumber.
The serial numbers of the Dutch and Danish M38a1's that I found do not seem to conflict but complement each other.
Regards,
Harold |

Hi Norseman,
I hope you still own that M38A1 after so many years, for I finally got the answer to the question if your M38A1 is a Nekaf/Van Twist M38A1 from Holland or a Nordisk Diesel M38A1 from Copenhagen, Denmark.
Your serial number is 100% one of the 400 M38A1's assembled by Nordisk Diesel in 1961. Just have a look at the serial number on the frame (drivers side) and it will show the following text:
JEEP M38 A1
57144 18615
Nekaf-jeeps do only have a MD1**** serial number on the frame (so, without the text JEEP M38 A1 and 57144) _________________ ________________
