I have the same issue so Iwill wait to see the replies you get. I have looked a little and the prices vary widely. |

If anyone could share the actual dimensions of the original fuel tank I would appreciate it.I have a 55 M38A1 that has had a boat gas tank in it since I have had it.I know someone did some work on the floor pan under the drivers seat and I do not know if the original gas tank would still work.I don't want to buy one and then find it won't fit. Thanks |

I've read on here that many of the repro's don't fit just right. |

The MD Juan or Omix Ada (same people) M38A1 tank has received very favorable reviews for form and fit on this web site and the G503 forums. You'll have to do a little searching to read them.
It is the M38 gas tank that has had the most problems. The primary problems are tank height, rear strap bracket and the wrong angle on the filler neck.
The M38 tanks sit right on the driver's flat floor. The M38A1 tank has a extended bottom and has a well constructed in the driver's floor. If you have an A1 with the tank floor modified and now level with the front of the floor then you will not be able to fit the correct tank until you fabricate or buy a new driver's floor and well. However if you do not care for the tank to be correct then a CJ5 tank will fit on the modified flat floor in an M38A1.
Don't let someone sell you a CJ2A, CJ3A or CJ3B tank. Their filler necks come straight out to the side like the M38 and will not fit in the M38A1 or CJ5 whose filler necks are angled slightly aft. _________________ Wes K

Wes when did they start making M38A1 Tanks that fit picked one up from one of the military dealers here in PA some of the things wrong location of sender and filter assm. holes all the holes for the sender had to be re-drilled and tapped they were clocked the wrong way, just shoddy workmanship and you cant use the hold down strap because the sending units in the way and had too put washers under the seat frame so it wouldnt hit said sending unit all this for 300$ but what can a poor boy due when the original goes belly up and cant be fixed again so are these new tanks just something new from them or did I just get a lemon.
