I am currently inspecting my brake system on my M38A1 CDN3.
I was just wondering if it has been discussed here before re: master cylinder upgrade.
I take it that Jeeps used the old style single stage M/C and thought that someone must have come up with a current upgrade to a dual stage system?
Any thoughts? |

The 68 and up CJ5 came with an under the floor dual master cylinder from the factory.
Herm the Overdrive guy offers a very good kit with options on the master cylinder itself.

interesting, I've been toying with the idea of fabbing a custom (non-evasive ) bracket to install a Wilwood 1" tandem. looks like it can be done..
herms kit, requires you delete the inner frame section that supports the stock set-up which entails grinding the rivets that support the bracket from the frame.

Does anyone have an appropriate master cylinder part number to do a conversion like this?
Herms conversions seems ok as does kaisers but I too don't want to cut away originality if I can get away without doing so. |

| Does this upgrade improve the braking or is the Jeep still pretty much limited by the 9-inch drums? |

Safety upgrade. If one circuit fails, you have the other.

I see that many of you fellows in the US opt for 11" drum upgrades.
I suppose I am fortunate enough to have a CDN3 version which came out in 1970 and was factory fitted with 10" drums and automatic adjusters...
I am suprised that they retained the old single stage M/C while upgrading the brake system from that found on the 1967 CDN2 version. |

| I was also wondering if there is a requirement to fit a proportioning valve into the system or am I OK to just change from a single to a dual cylinder setup??? |
