Thanks for the photos! My late father was an umpire for one of these
exercises in the later 40's. They'd fly back to base during the weekends and on one trip, the C47 pilots were so bad that they bought them a case of rum after they landed. Hoped they'd get drunk and 'buy the farm' before they flew them again. Another. PR National Guard figured the assault would be in front of the VIP stands, so they got on the Navy
frequency and called down battleship salvos on the landing spot as the troops came ashore. Dad said he and the other umpires called 100% casualties, but it was later changed by the big bugs to 25%.

Another unique USMC M38A1 jeep detail in the photographs.

On the top of the grill, under the hood edge is a strip of wood bolted in place that carries unit information.

Sorry, Mariano, but it is not the same one. The first group of pictures is LCU 1468, while the second group is LCU 1469 (the right side of the "8" is indented, but that of the "9" is not). They are probably from the same unit, though.
