I have custom aluminum fuel tank installed between the rear frame rails. I have a fitting welded on top for a vent line. The question is, where should I run the vent line to? I was thinking I would just run it up inside the left rear wheel well (facing forward), with a couple of loops in it and stake it there where it would be pretty hard to see.
I've had other engine guys tell me I need to vent it back into the air cleaner. That would be a pain in the butt 'cause then I'd have to run the vent hose up the inside of the left frame rail.
FWIW, I also have my exhaust pipe coming out just in front of the left rear wheel.
Use the late M38A1 tank vent fitting. It has a poppet in it and I believe it needs to be mounted horizontal so if there is not room above your rear tank then use a 90 and a short line to mount it up at the front end of the tank.

The reason guys have said to run it to the air cleaner is that you will know when you have submerged your jeep too far as it will drown the carburetor and fuel tank at the same time.
