on a dana 44 in m38a1, how i mportant is the felt seal (#7032634) in the tm9-8015-2 page 194 fig130, the tm says it must be installed between the oil slinger and the drive pinion oil gasket.
i was talking to my rebuilder about the ring gear/pinion im trying to find, and i mention it to him, he said there was no felt seal there when he took it apart. and im pretty sure it hasnt been rebuilt before. thxs
It's sole purpose is to increase the life of the garlock oil seal by keeping dirt and grit away from it. The life of the companion flange (yoke) is also lengthened because the grit often wears a groove at the seal lip in the flange. _________________ Wes K
