Putting new bearings in my front and rear axles and the books show 39-42 ft-lbs torque for the bearing cap bolts. This seems awful low for a 1/2-13 bolt even though they are only grade 5. Anybody know if this really is the correct torque?
38-42 FT LBs is correct. Overtorque would result in too much crush on the bearing shells. ERROR
Those bolts and the above torque are for the ring gear to the carrier.
The bearing cap bolts get 70 to 90 Ft Lbs torque and sealant on their threads. _________________ Wes K

Something is throwing me for a loop here, maybe I`m wrong about his question. He said 1/2-13 bolt, is he refering to the cap bolts for the carrier assy that get locktite and 70-90 ft lbs.
Jam is correct except sealant is called out in the manual but loctite will work as well. I didn't catch the bolt size relavance to the position. _________________ Wes K
