Thanks WesK. I cannot run the vent line to my carb as its not stock. I would need to install a carbon canister and purge valve, which I don't really want to do. Rather than using the original hard tubing, I will run a rubber line from the vent to the atmosphere, somewhere yet to be determined.

The valve on the tank appears to allow vapour out, but I cannot see how it would let air in, as there is a spring loaded rubber seal that presses into the tank opening. Positive pressure in the tank would push the spring up and allow vapour to escape, but the opposite direction of flow would not open the spring. Can you enlighten me?

Then I must assume you are describing a very different valve on your tank. The original PN 8332556 is that large round turret like body on top of the fuel pickup/filter housing and it allows air to seep in all the time uless the tank bulds up pressure then it releaves any pressure buildup above 2 or 3 PSI out through the vent tube or fitting.
