I need to reindex my oilpump. When the engine came back from the builder as shortblock the small tang was incorrectly indexed at 7:00
and i know from researching posts that it should be correctly set at
8:30 to get the dist rotor at 7:00. I've removed the dist and am ready to pull the pump and reindex it a couple of clicks.
Question: will the pump clear the exhaust downpipe and the Ross steering box? There's not a lot of clearance there. Any/All advice valued.

Oil pump is Melling, dist is Autolite 1AU-4006AUT

THX, RICK

The pump will clear the steering. you may have to remove the head pipe. I don't remember for sure.

Thx for the reply Bill. Pulling the exhaust pipe is not a problem and will
provide better access. The steering box was what really had me worried. Rick

DONE Cool Total time +- 1hr and 2 cold beers. Dropping the exhaust downpipe and having the fenders not mounted yet were a bonus. The dist now rests aprox level @ 7:00 @ #1 rotor position (before it was stretching the power feed wire). Will get the old dude properly timed this weekend..
