I just read your Oct 2012 post of the video http://www.willysmjeeps.com/v2/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=7344&highlight=transmission+bearing and noticed Wes said you missed the snap ring on the outside race groove. By your video it looks like you did not. Did you miss it?

I am getting ready to pull my transmission and replace the front bearing with a sealed bearing. I have never tried to replace just the bearing. I have though successfully rebuilt 2 transmissions. Have you replaced just the front bearing or do you or anyone see a problem with me doing that?
Thanks for your input,
Bob

I was able to replace just the front bearing without tearing the tranny apart. Without re-typing everything, go check out my link on installing my sealed bearing.

This needs to be moved to the tech forum.

Thanks for the information thread. I was still wondering about Yarder's video. It looks like that snap ring is on the bearing as it should be. I have the MRC bearing ordered and as I understand information on putting it in I do not have to take the inner seal out.

Bob said, wes said:

Yarder said in the original post:
Quote:
There was nothing in the Military manual about putting the snap ring in, and I got one with the rebuild kit, so I didn't install the snap ring on the main input bearing.

Wes said in response to Yarder's statement above (not in response to his video):
Quote:
The snap ring needs to be on that front bearing.

thanks, but in the Yarder's video it looks like the snap ring is in. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HxvNyW42L3A&feature=youtu.be

I don't mean to waste your time. I would never leave the snap ring out as I understand the purpose but thought I was missing something in his video.
Thanks,

No problem. The point I am making is I always try to make sure if I quote someone I use what he actually said in the actual context. I never viewed his video. He said he did not put the snap ring in and in the next post to that thread I said he must put it in.

It was obvious I think if you read the thread thru that he went back and installed the snap ring and corrected the video.

I should have followed up. I actually went back in and installed that snap ring. It can be seen in the video in it's place in that groove.

And yes, I did say that I forgot to put it in first. That's why I like all the support here. Keeps everyone honest!
