I am looking for the weight springs for the distributor centrifugal weights. I have searched everywhere for them without success. I read one forum post referencing another that described alternatives. I couldn't find the original post for that.

If anyone has:
Weight springs they are willing to sell
Or, a distributor core that includes solid, usable springs
Or, information of usable alternative springs
Or, knows of anyone with any one of those items

It would be GREATLY appreciated. This has been the first part for my A1 I have had a truly hard time hunting down.

Try some tune-up shop were they still understand mechanical advanced ignition systems. Distributor calibrating machine makes it easier, but not absolutely necessary. It is possible to recurve the dist. by using suitable springs from other applications, if orig, is not available. Give them the specs with the distributor.

Thank you for that link Chrisk. That is exactly the discussion to which I was referring. It mentions alternatives being discussed. I spent hours searching, yet have been unable to locate any earlier post describing alternatives. Admittedly, my searching skills could be to blame.

I would be much happier, though, purchasing a NOS set from you.

Try these guys also.

The references to alternatives mostly addressed using a different replacement spring that was close to the original's spring's dimensions then give the distributor to a shop with a distributor test bench to make the necessary adjustments to the spring and/or it's mounting tangs to bring the advance curve in line with the manual specs.
