I would like to have a Southwind heater for my M38. I have the arctic top. I'm not sure if the water type heater would work well or fit. At one time it looks like it had the Southwind heater, due to the holes in the front of the wind shield. Of those who have the hydro heater, do they produce enough heat? Do they fit with out crowding the passenger floor board?
The hot water heater is adequate and was the heater of choice in the later Canadian Ford and Kaiser built M38A1's. Of course the gas fired heater deliver's heat sooner and in larger quantities.
In the M38 the stock hot water heater does consume the left 1/3rd of the passenger's foot room. On the other hand the gas fired heater in the M38 is obtrusive and limits your field of vision forward through the windshield.
In the M38A1 both heaters are mounted under the hood on the right fender. _________________ Wes K
