Hello:

I have a question. Should there be a washer on both sides of the generator isolator bushing, or just the side that bolt head is on?

The main issue is the inaccurate TM's. The TM 9-8014 has a very poor illustration on page 187 and a set of instructions page 189 Items (6) & (7). Here they omit two regular thin 7/16 washers listed in the M38A1 ORD 9 SNL G-758 parts manual. If you go to the parts manual page 132 or view it below you will see two different bolts (one superseded the other, but either will work) 2 ea and then 2 ea of the following Lock washer, Light series (Thin standard outside diameter) 7/16 ID washer, large outside diameter 7/16 ID washer and nuts.

Also I am using the M38's TM 9-8012 illustration which is a much better illustration.

Thanks,
I do have the thin washers. Is there a trick to getting them into position? Can't seem to slip generator on with all 4 washers?

Not really. It helps to have an extra set of hands and a drift pin. These 24 V generators are just too heavy for one person to do it all.
