I am getting so close to turning the old girl over I can taste it.
I'm working on the wiring harness, and most of it is coming out the way it should, --things are matching up.
I have one wire labeled 81 but I do not find a reference to that numbered wire.
Finish the wiring, finish the hand brake cable holders, put the front fenders on and I should be ready to turn her over.
It is just to darn hot to spend a lot of time working on it during the day, so I spend my evenings working on it.
any help on the wire no. would be appreciated.

Hi Steve,
Maybe someone else can clarify. On all of the diagrams I have for the M38 and A1 there is no wire 81, only 82 directly from the battery to the starter.
Here is what the M series numbers list shows:
81
Battery positive feed to starting motor terminal block, including master switch
82
Starter motor terminal block to starter motor, left
I don't think the M38 and A1 use a terminal block between the battery and starter. If not, then there would not be a wire 81.

first off I didn't see the numbers correctly, is was 85, after looking at the schematic again I found it is not used. also the old set up did not have the circuit breakers, so the wiring is a little different hook up. So after a full after noon of working on the gauge panel and switch, I have it pretty well connected.
85 is the spare accessory power lead on the main power/ignition switch. It was often used for the heater kits and if the mechanical regulator was replaced with a transistor regulator the amp meter would then be swapped with a volt meter. The 8 & 9 wires for the amp meter were then no longer used and the 85 wire was used to power the volt meter and a ground was run from the volt meter to the firewall. _________________ Wes K
