Hello. I am new to the site. I was referred here by someone on the CJ-3B site. I recently bought a 3B and am currently disassembling the transfer case and teansmission for a rebuild dur to them containing about a quart of water in each. I have discoveres that i have a M38A1 engine and transmission and it appears that the transfer case is as well. The engine was rebuilt and has a serial of RMD 40948. The transmission has a tiny plate that is faintly stamped MD with a date of 7-23-53 also stamped on another small plate. There are odd stamped plates on the transfer case that are stamped D173 and another stamped J2A-1. Anyone have a clue as to what the possible meaning of the transfer case numbers and the manufacturing date of the engine would be? My hope is to uncover the history of this little jeep because i plan to rebuild it and take it to shows and everyone loves a good story. Smile
