I understand the early and late model differences my question is concerning the late model styles only, there seems to be two different late models, one with a pointer elbow and one with a rounded elbow. Which would be correct for Sep 1952 M38.

Front lifting shackle?

I have a September 1952 M38 that I'm restoring and I'm down to the little details like the front lifting shackles are not correct, they are currently 151 shackles that were modified to fit the brackets. For years I've been buying one at a time hoping to find the correct matching set, NO such luck ...

While we are on the winch the winch subject could someone please tell me the chain specs on the end of the cable like length, size, grade, and typ of hook.

I'm not an expert, But I live in Wauchula, FL which is near Sebring, FL. I did ALL the work myself (with lots of great help from this site and Ryan's book of couarse) to my 51 M38 frame off restoration back to as close to original as possible 95% is correct the 5% left are the realy small details ...

i had the same scenario. It wasn't very difficult to change. I was going for an all original look under the hood using the older block. If thats your end goal there are many other things you will want to change such as fly wheel with proper number teeth to match the starter, timming gear cover ...

So yeasterday I was sweeping out the Garage and pulled all the vehicles out like i do every couple of weeks or so. Two Gal of each will be good. Thats about what I used. I did a frame off and thats about right. It will vary depending on how much you have ready to paint and how often you clean your spray gun and waste. The more you have ready to paint the more efficient the paint mixed is.

So running the 100LL avgas straight is ok if you can afford it or we should mix it to lower the octane level? What harm does the higher octane levels cause on our mv?
