An M170's Unit Markings

Hello all,

I recently acquired an M170 still in its military colors. The stencils are fairly easily read, but I am curious about this one's unit. I've done a quick search of meanings, but can't get a clear answer from the web. The unit information is as follows:

33BO-I-153 HQ-54

My question is ...

Thought I'd share a picture from one of my recent patrols in Kandahar. That's a 240B without a heat shield in the turret. The light colored rock formation centered in the picture is actually an ancient mud castle built by ...

Removed what I thought was a hasty patch panel over the rear deck of my M170. Found some rust, but most noticeable were the six bullet holes. A .50 cal and five 7.62mm. Even more interesting, they penetrated from directly underneath the jeep upward. I have no idea how that happened.

Found another M170 near home that is in pretty bad shape, but it has lots of good parts I can use. Unfortunately it doesn't have any of the rare parts. The top bows are home-made.

I hate to part out a rare vehicle like this, but the ...

I've had m170 parts keyword tagged on eBay for a bit now, and it finally paid off. I found the reel light from a random seller for $150 plus shipping. Also a take-out. Pictures looked good. I believe it was one of those deals rdsar2k was referring to earlier in this thread. I have seen the ones ...

Will do. It may be a while before I can post any more pics, though. My dad will be putting the jeep in dry storage soon, if he hasn't already. I'll be back in the States in a few months. Expect lots of progress then.

A small update...

My dad removed the steel "patch" from the rear deck and discovered something interesting. Six bullet holes. What's weird is that all rounds penetrated from the bottom up. So at one point, the jeep was possibly on its side and was shot six times. Five rounds match 7.62, one is .50 ...

Yep, it's got both front and rear sway bars. It also has the splash guard in the engine bay. One bad note, though...there's spotty rust all over the body, especially around the toolboxes. It will be tedious to repair, but nothing that I can't do myself with some time. At the very least, it will hone ...
