Serial number?

What is the serial number of your 52. Mine is 3/52 59,148. That is a heck of a "motor pool" overhaul ! My idea of a mpool is a good washing then paint! Looks great.

How wrong would it be?

I would like to but a snorkel on my 52 M38 that I pride on being correct, but I love to drive with the w/s down in the summer. Could I attach the carb hose to the w/s frame so it will lay down instead of sticking up in the air on its own support rod when the w/s is down.

Some Good News for Once

Last 4th of July a group of friends and customers of John Bizal of Midwest Military wanted to take some vets in the parade we have in our town. The city was called and we were told " It is not a military parade!" We
were told we could be at the end of the parade. Luckly we took the spot of the Fort ...

How close Serial #'s have you seen?

I see a posting by a new member with a 52 M38 ser# 59697 My 52 is # 59148-----498 earlier! If they made 60,000 in 2 years, 5 day week, that would be 115 jeeps a day. That makes them 4 days apart. Anybody seen closer numbers?

Sounds like fuel vapor lock. Starts good cold, drive a while, let sit for 10 minutes, the engine and hot weather boil the fuel out of the carb. Try to find non-oxyenaited fuel----no alcohol. Thats what I do when the temp goes 90 degrees plus.

Wes,
I should have made that clear. I think we used PRC-1 thinned with a little MEK so it would suck in. Fellow jeep owners, don't use Permatex
to seal the fuel leaks on your Convair 580 or DC-9. Always check the maintenance manual for changes in practice or materials.

I fixed mine like this:
1. duct tape a shop vac to the oil fill tube
2. close the fording valves so the crankcase holds the vacuum
3. locate the leaks areas with brake cleaner---the fluid will suck in and clean the passage
4. Get a can of Permatex liquid form-a-gasket
5. with vacuum applied--put ...
