No, it does not. Too me it looks like the front crankshaft spacer. Either way it shouldn't be behind the throw-out bearing.

The last M38A1s do not show up in any publish data. The Marine Corps liked the M38A1s and didn't want to change over the M151s. They continued to take deliveries of M38A1s from 1960 until December 1964 when they were forced to start using the M151s. These USMC M38A1s were unique as they had the ...

I have maintained a serial number database for almost 30 years. it's a difficult task as you can only stand so much looking at lines and lines of information at a time. I had two big events that really filled out my data base. I did have access to hundreds of M38A1s at a surplus yard and over a ...

I followed your link to the fuel pump and I do not believe it is the correct / original fuel pump for your engine. I believe AC 4698 or 9562 would be the fuel pump you would want for the original look. There is an AC 4692 for $40 on ebay along with several AC 9562 fuel pumps including an NOS one. To ...

If you would like to keep an original theme with your rebuild, go with the correct fuel pump and rebuild it. If you should find an NOS fuel pumps they should be rebuilt as their diaphragms will not stand up to todays fuels. Check your parts manual as I believe you will also need the 1/8 inch thick ...

Depends on what all was removed to convert it to 12 Volts. While the major 24V items can be costly, the small items will be just as bad. I would advise taking inventory of what you have and what you need. For example, do you still have the double groove (original) crankshaft pulley, same with the ...

You can give Bob's Speedometer a try. I know a couple of people who have use them and were happy with the results. However, they are not cheap!

If you have a rather deep groove in your yolk, you will want to use Loctite 660 to fill in the groove which will keep the thin sleeve from being pressed down into the groove from the pressure from the new seal.

I can add to Wes comments.

Your engine serial number is most likely the factory original engine. Your engine serial number is in range with the others I have in my database. As Wes pointed out, the engines were not installed in order, however, there is a pattern where the first 2 digits are the ...

I had the same problem with the longest head stud. Unless you are buying NOS hardware, the dealer's stock "off the shelf" hardware. The military uses lengths that are not industry standards. I'm not looking at the manual, but I believe the studs are measured to something like a 16th of an inch ...

The pictures should help identify the carburetors. If any M38 carburetors are found with the original brass ID tag, I believe they are date coded and with a good sampling, we may come up with a working change over date.

Thanks Wes!
