I had an issue just like that. I had set my float, etc. Turns out that my float wasn't correctly floating. It had, over the years, gotten fuel inside it. I followed the book to put the float in a pan of hot water, watch at the bubbles came out, and noted the location. Then removed the float and ...

Magnetic Oil Plug

I got little round magnets from Harbor Freight, epoxy glued them to the plug. I first checked clearances when I had the Oil Pan off. I'm happy with the results. I did the same thing years ago on my volkswagon bug.

Old style bolts

I went to a junk yard that had a bunch of real old cars in there. Asked the guy for some and he must have spent an hour looking for me. He had a bunch of them in coffee cans and jars. I poured them out and got probably 50 of them.

Big Screwdriver

Thanks Wes! Wound up using a big screwdriver to move the gears a little, and it now works! Woo Hoo! I don't have to do a rebuild just yet.

Stuck in 2nd Gear

Does anyone have a quick fix for an M38a1 T-90 that's stuck in second gear.

I went out for a drive today, backed out of the garage, went out in first gear, was on the road for a little bit and shifted to second. Then, couldn't get it out of second at all.

Made it back to the shop, rolled out of ...

Getting Confused

It's very important that you memorize the differences in the names. I've since made a little wallet card that I carry with me and pull out for reference.

Bolt Stripped

Hey, you're lucky! On mine, the bolt snaped off and I wasn't able to completely remove the old one, had to drill it out and then tap in a new set of threads.

Most parts on these military jeeps are designed to be repaired and not necessarily replaced. The float is no exception.

I had a float with a teeny tiny hole in it. It was the cause of my jeep totally flooding out. I did the old trick of submersing my float in a pan of boiling water and watching ...

I should have followed up. I actually went back in and installed that snap ring. It can be seen in the video in it's place in that groove.

And yes, I did say that I forgot to put it in first. That's why I like all the support here. Keeps everyone honest!

Thank you, Wes. I should really say, that you Wes, Sir.

Well, what do you know. Yup, I had both of those web sites printed out, and the TM in separate 3 ring binders on the bench turning page by page. I read the one referencing installing the bearing with the snap ring out, and I looked at the ...

Oh poop. I hope you mean the interior snap ring and not the exterior one that surrounds the exterior part of the bearing that probably ensures the correct depth, or to prevent it from going into the transmission too far.

The old bearing did not have that groove for a snap ring.... so, after ...

Yes, I showed the two springs, each anchored in the same slot, and going in opposite directions.

I'll have to go check on the size of the Allen Key. I just grabbed a stack of them and stopped when one fit.

No, the input bearing was a very snug fit. It wasn't so tight that I had to bang it in ...
