Thanks for the info, and will do. I just cleaned off the pins. I'll take it apart and clean the contacts. Thanks for the help. After reviewing Youtube, I'm sure I'll come back for more questions. I see where the headlight wires meet up, just don't know how to test them at that point.

56 M170 headlights not working

Both headlights went out at same time while driving. All other lights (convoy/blackout) still work. I pulled the light switch box out, cleaned the connections and screwed it on back tight. Still no go. I got the wiring diagram and know where to look, but I am afraid I,m a novice electrician and don ...

M170 electrical problem...and rust prevention

So I finally got my M170 running like a top. Got distributor parts replaced yesterday, and took her out for a spin. Went over a bump, and all my lights went out, and wont come back on. What is the logical progression to find the source of the problem?

Also...rust prevention. There is a product ...

Thanks Wes. The jeep sat idle in my dad's garage for about 10 years. The carb and fuel pump needed rebuilding, and the exhaust system was replaced.
That was last Fall. It ran OK for a couple of months before the missing/backfiring started. I replaced all the plugs last week, as I do not think they ...

M170....rough idle/missing/backfire, what next?

My M170 is suffering from a bad case of backfiring. I had the carb and fuel pump rebuilt. It ran well for about 40 miles, but started missing, and now backfiring Progressively getting worse. I installed new plugs, no real help.
It misses (stalls/shakes) and backfires mostly when accelerating. Fuel ...

Help! Carb part and socket question

I had the carb and fuel pump rebuilt on my 56 M170. It ran flawlessly for about 40 miles, then it started missing, and has been getting progressively worse. I thought maybe the carb float was stuck, so I took off the top, All OK. When I went to put it back on, a piece fell out of somewhere. It looks ...

It can be used on coated surfaces also, just will not penetrate surface as well. I have applied it to my exhaust, axles, floorpans, wheel wells, battery box, etc. So far, so good.

Rust Prevention

Hello everyone,

I just wanted to pass on some info of a new patented product a friend of mine formulated. He restores muscle cars and invented a compound that not only prevents rust, but is impervious to water, salt, phosphoric acid, battery acids, and oils. I just rebuilt my fuel pump and carb and ...

M170 Carburetor and Fuel Pump rebuilds

Hi everyone, an M170 neophyte here. I had a mechanic look at my M170, and the carburetor needs rebuilding, and he says the fuel pump needs to be replaced or rebuilt. After I woke up from passing out at the price he gave me, I thought can I do it myself? I looked at a blowout/parts diagram for both ...

Thanks guys. I'm assuming I want to use the TM 9-8014 Operational and Organizational Maintenance manual. I've got boxes of others if that's not the right one. In reading through it, I think I'll change the plugs first, and move on from there.

53 M170 misfiring

OK, I am not very engine savvy. Jeep ran smoothly last Fall. Jumped the two batteries today w/ my Yukon and got her started. Idled rough. Pushed in choke and ran a little smoother. Drove about 15 yds and she stopped moving and began backfiring terribly and loudly. Shut 'er down. Any suggestions? I ...

12V siren for an M170 needed

Please be patient, I am a newbie at these jeeps. I need a siren for my M170. My dad had installed some cheesy horn in the housing. Where's the best place to look for one? what specs do I need? Anything else besides 12V for a M170? :D
