Does the auxiliary plug on the M38 have a female fitting (to accept a plug with a male bullet terminal) or does it have the male bullet terminal? I have seen both version as loose parts but never sure which was mounted on the M38.
The trouble light shown by Ron has a connector that simply plugs ...

No problem: an on the shelf item here in Canada. Both the cylindrical resistor and the Bakelite retainer. These early gauges are identified by one small Douglas connector for the sending unit wire and a large Douglas connector for the resistor retainer. .. Brian

Tubes or no tubes

A friend got new non-directional 7:00x16 tires and mounted them without tubes. A tubeless type valve stem has been installed in the wheel rim of course but otherwise military rims and tires. He has been very happy with the result. Why are we all using tubes? Is there a problem with what he has done?

Final adjustment of the exhaust system can be done by varying the spacer in the rear muffler clamp so that the system is in a relaxed position. Always consider that settling of old motor mounts or body to frame cushions can put stress on the exhaust system: bad news for manifold outlets.

floor drain covers

Been fooling with my M38 floor drain covers: from observations of original examples were the rivets holding the rubber gasket on the lower side of the cover or on the upper side. I suspect the original intent was to have the rivet heads on the lower side with prongs facing up. But I have seen both ...

Ralph that’s a good photo of the way the pedal plunger engages with the lever on the early starter motor. I always thought that it looked poorly designed. Any shifting of the body due to worn or rotten hat channels would make direct contact of the plunger with the starter lever very troublesome ...

The Canadian Army Supply Catalogue 7610-21-848-9044 (my copy has no cover so date unknown) had a several page supplement for the CDN2 (again undated but presumably about 1968). It lists the bracket as 2920-21-848-9044 and Ordnance no. 8699706. I use a major dealer's card files to convert 8699706 to ...

The M38 and M38A1 25 amp generator mount with rubber bushings which accounts for the large mounting holes in the original bracket and the front engine mounting plate. The 60amp alternator, as used on the M38A1 CDN 2&3 mounts with 3/8” bolts without bushings so a special mounting bracket (a heavier ...

Wes, I am away from home so can’t check part numbers. In Bill’s photo you can just see the yellow army part number. There is also a NATO stock number associated with the mount. These I can check in a week or so.
