I understand that, but it seemed like circleburner wanted to have the manifold stay OD and I just thought I would point out this coating as an alternative to painting which would be a lasting solution.

The toughest finish for mufflers and headers that I have seen is called "Jet-Hot coat". It is a ceramic-based coating that is applied to bare metal. It is kinda expensive I think. See this website for offered colors: http://www.jet-hot.com/coatings/premium-colors/

Colors 2006, 2027, and 2053 look ...

Cleaning canvas

I don't post here very often, but I have a few questions. I have my M38 nearly complete and I'm ready to tackle the canvas.

All canvas is original and in decent condition and I would like to clean it. Is there a recommended procedure for cleaning it?

I tried a small sample a while back using ...

Thanks for all the help on clearing up this situation. The seal I have looks like the molded seal in your album Wes. I guess I will start searching for a different replacement seal, preferably the rope seal. Thanks again.

The seal was a molded rubber type. It had a metal insert molded in for stiffness. It looks exactly like the old one that I took out. The bearings were pre-lubed with engine assembly grease and the seal was pre-lubed with STP+oil. I'll go put a torque wrench on it later today and turn it just to get ...

Engine rear main seal quesion

When I assembled my engine earlier today, I put in a new rear main seal. It is a repro seal that came in the major engine overhaul seal/gasket kit that Pete Debela sells. I put the seal halves in and trimmed them to fit as per the manual. However, when I install the bearing cap and torque the main ...

To build on Bretto's post, I've also heard people say you don't want to paint the radiator fins at all because it decreases heat transfer.

What I want to know is: what part of the radiator gets painted which color. The fan shroud for example. Does it get black or OD? And the radiator housing ...

I think there could be a market in this...there are more people that need to get into their gages and you seem to have a well-engineered solution if you say it appears factory when finished.

What material are the bezels? Aluminum? Did you have any problems with fracturing them or scratching the ...

I don't have my hood with me, but my wood blocks (original I believe) measure 2.6 inches on the dot, center to center.

If you are looking for a quick solution, I have 3 Prestolite 28V 25A generators. They are the same style and type generator as the Autolite, just a bit later (I think the ones I have are '60s). I had one on my M38 until I dismantled it (I plan on keeping this one). I have no way of checking if the ...

Original front leaf spring has 9 leaves, the repro has 8. The width of the leaves are the same between the two.

The reason I bought these springs was to replace my mismatched set. It was always sitting crooked with 2 different styles on the jeep (one side original and one side replacement). I know ...

Leaf spring arch question

I bought a set of new (repro) leaf springs for my M38 a while back. They look good but for some reason the front springs don't match the arch of the originals.

The repro springs are roughly 2 inches longer (eye to eye) than the orig springs, and about 1 inch less arched (shorter vertically).

Any ...

I think Wes pointed out once before that the use of Av gas in autos is illegal and therefore will be hard to obtain. I don't think you will be able to walk up to the pump attendant and ask for 10 gal of 100LL for your car. Av gas is not road-taxed (unlike auto gas). I think Wes also mentioned going ...
