Beautiful Rob!

Thanks!

We needed that.

Yes the left side is similar but more complicated as it has a hole for the retaining bolt and a crush stop fixture between the part and the tub.

Thank you everybody for your help with this. Ron's dimensions will be a great help. I will post some pictures ...

Here’s the M38 bracket:

The seat frame sits on this to prevent landing on the wheelhouse front.

That looks an altogether simpler arrangement. Something tells me my original M38A1 tub, which ...

If I recall correctly the U channel welded just above the yellow square stopped the seat tilt rearward at level originally. Is this U channel on your jeep?

Hi Wes, yes the U channel is in place but the back of the seat strikes the wheelhouse above that level. I have tried the same exercise with a ...

From Wes’ photo pages and a pic of a blue tub it looks like the A1 did not have that right side wheelhouse bracket for the seat like the M38.

It escapes me as to why not.

Mine being beat flat, the damage to the wheelhouse by the seat frame banging on it is readily apparent.

Fascinating that the ...

Bruce,
There is a tab welded to the front of the wheelhouse the seat frame sits against on the M38. The M38 and A1 use the same passenger seat frame or two similar versions on the A1. In any case they are physically interchangeable.

The tab is similar to the driver side except no hole for the ...

What is your M38A1's serial number. The spring and bracket retainer wasn't used on early M38A1 serials MD10002 thru MD61808. It was introduced on the later A1's MD61809 and on October 1953.

Willys PN 684185 - Bracket, pass seat retaining spring

The early M38A1's solved the problem of the bouncing ...

Does anybody fabricate the bracket on the right side of the body that secures the passenger seat in place? I have the spring that fits to it but not the bracket, which I guess is welded in place. Thanks, Bruce.

Re: Need Some Photos

On my M-38A1 there is a spring type mount that holds the passenger side seat in place... Could someone post a photo of the proper mounting of this bracket... I cut the old bracket off the original tub and saved it; but the replacement tub that came with the project did not have it... So now I need ...

Brett,
Thank you for your reply and suggestions. The jeep has a typical 5 digit engine number (MC 75999) so no link there I guess. I will have a careful look at the frame rail and see if there's any evidence of a number there. Thanks for the link to your restoration file. You've done an amazing job ...

M38 serial number

Dear all,
I am a completely new member of this forum from UK. I own several jeeps and various 4x4 quarter ton vehicles, including a M38 and a M38A1, both ex-USAF in Europe. The M38 was stationed on a base in UK. On another jeep forum in USA I saw a post from a M38 owner who said his vehicle had a 6 ...
