1st gear is non synchronized.
So when going from 2nd to 1st you have do rev the engine with the clutch
Out and trans. in neutral to a approx. RPM that the engine will be turning
Once you complete the shift and let the clutch out again.

Practice.
Also the faster your going the higher the rev. so ...

The normal oil level is above the rear output shaft,so yes oil
Will run out when you remove the yoke.
That's why your instructed to drain the case before you start.

Simply pry out the seal and install an new one.

They make a tool for prying out seals also.

Re: m38a1 batteries

I've searched this topic and have found results, unfortunately there a couple years old, trying to get up to date info. I don't think I ever had to bleed any oil gage.

After you shut it down what little air is left works back to the engine.

Start it and see.
If you must bleed, crack the line at the gage, but I don't think you
Will need too.

You will need the front cap off if you have to remove the rubber insert. It comes out the front. Use the appropriate chapter of TM 9-1825E Bendix component manual. The manual is in our downloads sections in two parts. Chapter 4 for the early light switch and chapter 5 for the connectors.

Also would add to check charging system for an Over Charge
Condition.
Higher than normal voltage will heat up the coil quickly.
