Are the new bumperetts being sold on eBay pretty much junk? Or are they serviceable?

Most of them are junk. Im referring to the repops from Asia.Look carefully at the pictures. Some are so bad that the two ends just about meet. Thin metal of questionable character. Look for take-offs, you will be ...

You want left hand ones because only the left ones that the M38 uses have the larger red lens for a normal tail and brake light. The standard right hand one only has blackout features, not useable on the public roads.

All the round ones like the pictured ones fit the M38. It is part of the ...

I do it a little different. Remove only one part or assembly from the Jeep. Restore it completely, wrap it up and label it. Then on to the next part or assembly.

The benefits of doing it this way, when you get to the last piece everything you did is finished. Just bolt it all back together. Fun ...

Pull those funky lights off and locate the military version that goes there.

Early M series tail lights are what you are looking for (round). Get two left hand or drivers side. Look in behind the lights through the wheel well, is the bracket still there for the military tail lights.

Lose the ...

The paint is readily available. Online search.

The battery hatch: It is one of those things that makes the M38 unique. They reproduce the hatch and the box. But you "could" find a hatch and attach it to the top of the cowl and be done with it?

If you are driving it much, turn signals are a must ...

First off, get the "Green Book". It is cited here on this site, it will be immensely helpful. To bad most people don't know about it when they are in the buying stage. It could save so much grief.

Ron, I decided I just didn't have the drive to change it out. So I let the winch go and am driving my Jeep instead.

Thank you Wes. I have been studying these in your photo gallery. the inspection plate seems the quickest way to determine early or late? 2 bolt early, 6 bolts late. The one I have laying around is definately late, but the casting number doesnt match anything in the guide book.

It was my plan to pull the starter and get those bits of data this weekend. I can say it is a 12V starter.
The PTO is the correct short one for the M38 application. Thats what brought this whole bell housing swap out up.
