Checking my copy of “5th armored Division Camp Chaffee Ark. ‘51 I found no Jeeps, but several pages in is a halftrack named “Copenhagen” with bumper inscription 5 (armor sign) 461. On the Special Staff Page is a photo of my late father, Maj. James C. Starbird, Chemical Officer. He ran the gas ...

Here in Darkest Arkansas we dropped the yearly inspections as a waste of time and money, BUT for an Antique Vehicle tag we must swear to keep the vehicle in "original" condition. So I carried a copy of that form to show the young officers why my M38 did not have turn signals. Worked several times.

If your vehicle has been titled, you might be able to
backtrack owners and the first to title might let you
know where it came from. It's a small chance, but
look at us!

First, get the M38 Manual, available free herein for
downloading. Second, get lots of paper towels and
rubber gloves. Third, get an oil change receptical.
Fourth, follow the manual's directions. That should
do it.
PS: Quick Lube places probably don't have a clue.

When my wife and I purchased our M38 all the plates
were shiny and new, as the PO thought the old ones
were dull and worn looking. Very fortunately, he also
kept the old ones and included them in the sale. But,
unfortunately, he licensed and titled it with the new
info. When we sold it eight years ...

I believe the first photo has markings correct for
the Little Rock School desegregation operation. I
still remember the "I live in Occupied Arkansas"
bumper stickers.

Willie and Joe, after reading Patton's regs for the
3rd. Army, called HQ and said they were detouring.
One of the regs was about windshields.

Bought a car out of Oklahoma once that had this
problem. Put it up on the rack and found that there
was caked mud on the inside of the wheels. The mud
was only on one side, and about an inch thick. Washed
it out and the problem was solved. Worth a look.

Talk with some of your police chums in the forensic
department. They may have a chemical which will
'bring out' the ground off numbers. I know that this
has been done with firearms. Can't wait to visit
your country again!

As Wes advises, the quickest thing to check is the
gas tank vent. Take the cap off and see what happens.
Then go from there.
