Interesting, all vehicles over 40 years old are exempt from a test on this side of the pond.
They still have to be road worthy if you get stopped for speeding::lol:

It has been a while to get a reply on this.
So after setting up the engine after a leaking manifold gasket I wanted to get a CO reading to make sure she was not lean at the top end of the revs.
So with the Weber carburettor fitted I got 2.70% Vol which is an MOT pass in the U.K.and a clean running ...

P.C.V Baffle

When I was setting the Tappits I noticed the ventilator parts did not have a Baffle on the body fitted to the side valve cover.
I checked TM9-1804A page 68and it does not show one.
Looking through the parts lists on a GPW it does show Baffle GPW 6762 WO-630298.
I am interested why this Baffle was ...

All back together now, went well with no more leaks.
She pulls up hills better now and surprisingly had to re set the carburettor due to a lumpy tickeover. May be something to do with the cracked down pipe or leaking manifold.

Painting the Block

I am in the process of fitting the exhaust Manifold.
I have cleaned off the old gasket ready to fit the new.
Do you paint the block under the gasket or around it?
Thanks.

Fitting exhaust Manifold

I know this has been done to death but after reading up a lot I still have a question.
When refitting the Manifold make sure both sides are flat,Head and Manifold.
Use new brass nuts,as the studs take a little brass each time used.
No locking washers.
Do not use Anti seize.
Use the two conical ...

Update.
Got the downpipe braised and replaced with new gaskets.
Went for a run and still have the noise.
So did another air test with the compressed air up the exhaust pipe to find air coming from the base of the manifold in the middle behind the exhaust pipe.
Stripped it all down to find a blown ...

Result, just found an air leak.
I did notice when looking around the joint on the down pipe next to the manifold a little bit of black blow by ,but could not feel it with the engine running.
Any way just put a low pressure air line up the exhaust and sure enough an air leak.
I will take it off and ...
