I have a 1954 M38A1. I'm not aware of this geometry changing substantially over the production run, but I am not sure.

Edge of panel to center is shown below. I'd appreciate it if someone else could check.

What year M38A1?

What dimensions are you specifically looking for? Location only? Needing to fabricate the bucket?

Adam,

I have an M38A1 with a Warn overdrive. I'll see if I can grab a few dimensions for you.

Hi Robert,

I rebuilt nearly everything on my jeep, but sent these off to a shop. As Wes stated, some special tooling is needed to do it right. I provided the parts, but found it pretty reasonable to have done.

Mark / Brian,

Thanks for your help! This is perfect.

Yes, I've been thinking about hand working it. I've leaned away from it a bit because I am able to use a CNC mill to make my proposed analogous part and thought this may end up looking better than my handiwork, but I may reconsider...

Thanks ...

Hi mdainsd,

I was inquiring about the thickness of the original (unmodified) sheet metal and its height/width. The parameters of the added angle are clear to me.

These are the dimensions I am looking for:

Thanks!

Thanks Brian.

I'm aware the new angle Wes showed in the documentation is 3/4 x 3/4 x 1/8. Like you mention, I am not 100% sure of the original bracket's width or gage / thickness.

Correct - I'm aware the openings are not separate parts - they are formed sheet of the weldment. I'm using a separate ...

Everyone - thanks for your help.

Wes - I wasn't even aware these documents existed. Thanks for sharing. Spent some time looking at your album to see what else is up there.

I spent some time looking at this, along with shots of other's solutions. Perhaps it's over the top, but I decided to design ...

Right. I just don't physically see any mating holes in the battery box itself or in TM9-8014. I assume shared part with something else?

What is the function of the holes in the welded on tabs (shown in the picture detailing the correct orientation of aftermarket parts?) It doesn't appear to be a fastener clearance hole.

I've seen a lot of people using 51Rs. Any other hiccups to be aware of? Do I need to change any terminal hardware?

Thanks Wes. I agree about the tight fit. Looks like I'm possibly into some sort of modification project.

The proximity of the posts to the metal holddown does get my attention, especially during maintenance. If I did go down a "design a new look-alike" path, I was thinking of introducing more ...

M38A1 Battery 22NF Hold Downs

Hi all,

It's been forever since I posted on here. Good to see some familiar usernames (and lots of new ones).

I restored my M38A1 in 2006 when I was in high school. I used the 22NF batteries for it as at the time it was hard to find / expensive for the proper battery type. I made a new weldment ...

Hi all,

Sorry for the confusion with some of my terms. I was typing the original posts on an iPad, and I tend to get a little sloppy on it. My apologies.

I think I have the axles and appropriate hubs from a spare rear end I have. I took the spare apart to see if I could use the differential itself ...

Thanks. And I'm aware of the oil recommendation, it's on my old documentation too. Not using synthetic anything in the jeep. Pulling it apart later today.
